Power to Heal, part 2: 5 Ways That Healing Flows

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name...they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Mark 16:17-18

All throughout Scripture and all throughout history God has released healing in various ways. From the prayer of faith to an anointed handkerchief to a text message - there’s no limit to how God can release healing. All things are possible to those who believe!

In part 2 of this series on healing, I want to talk about some of the various ways God releases healing.

I remember leading worship at my church years ago, and my pastor came to the platform with a word of knowledge that God is healing cancer. The guy running the computer in the back had a friend that was scheduled to go in for surgery the next day for cancer.

So he texted them the word of knowledge that God is healing cancer.

Apparently, they received the word by faith because when they went to the doctor for their appointment the next day, they didn’t need to do surgery anymore - the cancer was healed!

Through a text message!

Here’s 5 ways that healing flows:

1. Scripture

Proverbs 4:20, 22
“My son, give attention to my words...For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

Psalm 107:20
He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.”

There is life, health, and healing power within the Word of God!

Meditate on and declare out loud the healing words of God over your life.

2. The laying on of hands

One of the foundations of the faith (Hebrews 6:2) is the laying on of hands.

Our hands were meant to be conduits through which God’s power flows.

Luke 4:40 - “When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.”

If you want to see people get healed, lay hands on them!

I remember a young girl came up to my wife and I after a youth service and asked that we pray for her joints that were dealing with arthritic pains. God highlighted her back to me so I asked her what’s going on there. She said she had scoliosis.

So we laid hands on her and the power of God surged through her spine.

I got a text later that night from the youth pastor saying she went home and had her mom check out her back - and her spine had straightened out!

3. Anointing oil

Mark 6:13 - “And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.”

Oil acts as a type of the Holy Spirit. As you anoint people with oil, you’re releasing the healing power of the Spirit in their bodies.

4. Word of knowledge

I remember ministering at a church and as I was preparing to go there, I kept seeing this image of when my friend prayed for a lady who lost her sense of smell. She got totally healed and could smell again.

I took it as a word of knowledge and as I began to minister, I asked if there was anyone there who had lost their sense of smell.

One guy came up.

I prayed twice for him and then brought him some anointing oil to see if he could smell; to test out the miracle.

He said he could smell something...but the only problem was that he had never had a sense of smell his entire life! So he couldn’t tell me what he was smelling since he had never smelled before!

That was a creative miracle.

And it all started as a word of knowledge: information that I didn’t know, but God knew and revealed to me.

Ask God to give you words of knowledge - and step out in faith as you release them.

5. Commanding prayer

When Jesus and the disciples ministered healing to the sick it was almost always with a command.

Jesus didn’t always ask the Father to heal someone - He just commanded them to be healed. Same with the disciples. They commanded healing into people’s bodies in Jesus’ name.

“Be healed!” “Rise up and walk!” “Receive your sight!”

It’s part of our function in the Kingdom of God. We use the authority Jesus gave us to heal the sick, and as a representative of Christ, we command diseases to get out and healing to come.

If you’ve always used more of a petition prayer when ministering to the sick, shift your prayer to commanding.

These are just 5 ways that God releases healing.

The bottom line is faith.

Faith isn’t something that you conjure up in your head; it starts in your heart.

Simply believe that God wants to use you to heal the sick.
Simply believe that God wants to heal you.

Take these practical ways and start releasing God’s healing power to those in need!
The more you step out in faith, the more you’ll see people get healed.

Question: What are some other ways that you’ve seen God heal?
