5 ways to see more supernatural power in your life

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

I’ve heard it said many times that we need to get back to the Book of Acts and the impact of the early church with signs, wonders, and miracles. As I’ve been reading through Acts in recent days, it stood out to me how much action was documented - hence, the name - Book of Acts, or the Acts of the Apostles. I believe the amount of power the disciples walked in was directly connected to the amount of action they took for the gospel. After all, you only need as much power as you’re going to use.

My wife and I recently bought a new car because our old car literally broke. As we were out car shopping, we whittled it down to two options.

The first one had much more mileage than we wanted, but it had torque! You hit that gas pedal and you start zooming.

The second one had way less mileage, but not as punchy on the accelerator.

My wife and I, both wanting something with power, realized - what are we going to do with that extra torque? We could get something practically new (new car smell still intact) without the extra punch! And it would last longer!

In other words, you only need as much power as you’re going to use.

Book of Acts power is attracted to Book of Acts actions.

Here’s a few tips on how to position yourself for more Holy Spirit power to flow through your life:

1. Be mission-minded

I remember reading in Mel Tari’s book “Like a Mighty Wind”* the story of them walking on water.

They were going to preach the gospel to an unreached village in Indonesia, and on their way, they came across a river. As they walked across, the water only reached their knees. They thought nothing of it and went on to preach the gospel.

Someone went back to take soundings on how deep the water was there and found it to be 20ft deep! They walked on water!

What’s the point? That type of supernatural power flowed because they were on a mission for the greatest mission - the Great Commission!

I’m always amazed by how many salvations and miracles I see on the mission field.

The Holy Spirit loves the gospel of Jesus Christ.

You want to see God come through in supernatural ways? Be on a mission to spread the gospel.

2. Take risks

Seeing the wild supernatural demonstrations of God’s power oftentimes requires taking risk!

Imagine being Peter in Acts 3 who grabbed a cripple by the hand to lift him up!

You may say - “What if they don’t get healed?”
Well, what if they do?

Take a risk to preach the gospel, share your testimony, pray for the sick, minister to the oppressed, and prophesy!

3. Be intentional

You’ve got to train your mind to think kingdom.

People might fight me on this, but your flesh is still trying to live out it’s sinful desires in your life.

How do you train your mind?

  • Read the Gospels and Acts and think on the kingdom lifestyle demonstrated

  • Be in meetings where the supernatural is normal

  • Intentionally share Jesus

I’ve found that actions train thought patterns, regardless of how I feel.

When you’re intentional to do kingdom actions, you make a landing place for kingdom power to flow.

4. Be faithful

Whatever measure of power you’re walking in now, be faithful with it!

Faithfulness is the key to increase! (Matt. 25:14-30)

5. Be grateful

Thank God every step of the way. Celebrate every victory - big and small.

At the end of the day, it’s really not about being the most powerful person. It’s really about glorifying God, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and making disciples.

Having more power makes those jobs much easier.
And having the gospel be your mission attracts power to your life.

What am I saying?
If you want Book of Acts power, then take Book of Acts actions.

Question: When are the times you’ve seen God move most powerfully through your life?
