5 ways to build unshakeable faith

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”
Romans 10:17 NASB

We’ve all faced challenges in the unexpected year of 2020. But the good news is that faith works in every type of circumstance. Faith isn’t dependent on what’s happening around us because it’s rooted in our unshakeable God who is seated far above it all. As we come to a close of this crazy year where fear has tried to dominate the airwaves, let’s take some time to invest in our faith.

The narrative for our lives has been on constant attack this year. From the virus and it’s repercussions, to racial tensions, to the election, to churches being open or not - there’s a lot going on that can potentially stress us out, to say the least.

Faith takes us beyond the shakeable things around us and roots us in a kingdom with a King that is unshakeable.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4

As we’re about to close out 2020 and enter 2021, here’s 5 ways to build faith -

1. The Word

The Scriptures are God’s revealed will to us - specifically the life of Jesus, the Word made flesh.

Meditate on the Word and let faith burst forth. God has a promise for whatever you need.

My friend Jerame Nelson tells the testimony of how his mother got healed of cancer. She was reading the story of how Jesus healed Bartimaeus of blindness and said to God if you did it for him you can do it for me.

Jesus appeared to her, laid hands on her and she was completely healed of cancer!

That came from the Word!

2. The Prophetic

Not saying prophecy is the same as the scripture, but faith still comes from the word of the Lord.

One of the ways I live my life is by the prophetic words I receive. By prayerfully considering the words I get, I make choices on what I should do.

In 2018, I received words on recording an album and that finances would come. I moved forward in faith, trusting in what I believe God said, and over $20k came in around 5 weeks. Praise God!

Get around trusted prophetic voices. Don’t despise prophecies; test them, hold onto what is good, get counsel, and move forward in faith. Trust that prophecy is one of the main ways God leads His people today.

3. The Act of Stewardship

Romans 12:3 says that God has dealt to each one of us a measure of faith. But Jesus also taught that being faithful with little qualifies you for more (Matt. 25:23).

Whatever measure of faith you have now has the potential to grow!

Use what you got and watch as it increases.

You used your faith when you asked Jesus to save you.
You used your faith when you prayed for your family.
You used your faith when you gave that word.

How else can you use your faith? Be a faithful steward of what God has given you.

4. The Testimony

The woman who had the issue of blood came to Jesus because she heard about Him. (Faith comes by hearing!) And she believed that if she got to Him, she would get healed.

What did she hear? I believe it was the testimonies of what Jesus had already done. If God has done it for someone else, He’ll do it for you!

If you want to build your faith, search out the testimonies! What has God done for others? What has God done through others? In finances, marriage, health, children, jobs, ministries, callings, and so much more - listen to the testimony and trust God!

I love what the great preacher Charles Spurgeon said, “...what he has done once, is a prophecy of what he intends to do again - that the mighty works which have been accomplished in the olden time shall all be repeated, and the Lord's song shall be sung again in Zion, and he shall again be greatly glorified.”

5. The Environment

If you want to build faith, get into environments of encounter! Go to places where God is moving. Get around people of faith.

When we see and experience God moving in supernatural ways - especially when we’re in the room - it gives the opportunity to boost our faith that He will do the same for us!

There’s a lot of talk about a “new normal” - but you can shift your normal by the environments that you put yourself in on a consistent basis. If you can’t be there in-person, get there online!

Boost your faith by being in environments of faith.
